One of Sylvia Castellanos’ signature works is “The Road to Martin Luther King.” This is a collection of large paintings of African-American historical figures whose efforts to achieve racial equality helped pave the way for the civil rights achievements of the mid-twentieth century.

Ms. Castellanos does presentations before groups on this collection. Topics include how she developed the series, how she chose which people to paint, and a description of some of the technical problems she encountered while creating it.
